Many university programs in the science, business, engineering and other areas require first and second-year mathematics courses as prerequisites for higher-level courses. Starting your degree at Douglas is smart for several reasons.
Equal course content
University Transfer, or UT, means that the Douglas course has the same content as an equivalent university course. For instance, Math 1120 transfers as either SFU Math 151 or UBC Math 100, as well as other equivalent courses at every other college and university in BC.
Refer to the appropriate university calendar and the British Columbia Transfer Guide to identify UT Math courses that you can complete at Douglas.
Different approach
While the level of teaching and course content are the same, you’ll see differences in other areas.
intimate classes with less than 40 students mean teachers know your name
more instructional time – Douglas math classes meet for at least four hours per week compared to three hours per week at university
access to profs outside of class in addition to out-of-class tutorials with qualified teaching assistants
professional tutors on staff available for drop-in help
Price
A typical three-credit course at Douglas costs $255.60. The same course at university is $456. Taking two years full-time at Douglas, you could save over $4,000.
Performance
“University graduates who start in college do as well or better than students starting university directly from high school.” – BC Council on Admissions and Transfer survey results of BC bachelor’s students five years after graduation
