Erica Northcott
Born in Rome, Italy, Erica Northcott, one of Canada's finest sopranos, has earned a uniquely active performing career in early music, oratorio, operetta and contemporary music. She has been a past member of the Vancouver Chamber Choir, Hortulani Musicae (renaissance ensemble), Jumpstart (multi-disciplinary performance ensemble) and frequent performer with World Explorer Cruises to Alaska.
On the concert stage, Miss Northcott has appeared to great acclaim with the symphony orchestras of Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Winnipeg as well as the C.B.C. Chamber Orchestra Vancouver. In addition to being a favourite soloist with orchestras and choral societies, she is also a seasoned recitalist.
In national and international competitions, she has been the recipient of many awards, including the Montreal International Music Competition.
Miss Northcott's silvery timbre and interpretative powers have earned high praise from audiences and critics on many continents. She has premiered many canadian works by such composers as Imant Raminsh, Elliot Weisgarber, Rodney Sharman and Mark Armanini.
Her graceful musicianship has gained her respect as an artist in such performances as Haydn's Creation with the Tokyo International Singers in Japan , as singer and instructor with the Societa Dante Alighieri in Mondavio, Italy and most recently with the Chilliwack Symphony Community Orchestra.
A graduate of U.B.C., Miss Northcott is Head of the Voice Division , Music Department of Douglas College in New Westminster, teaches privately, leads workshops and adjudicates including Heritage Festivals, Metropolitan Opera Regional auditions and the Burnaby Clef Society.
