Headed to university? Find out which credits will transfer

If you're planning on attending university, you'll need to know if your Douglas College courses will be accepted at the university you want to attend. For the most up to date and complete listing of transferability of all courses, go to the British Columbia Council on Admissions and Transfer at http://www.bccat.bc.ca/. This site has transfer listings for all educational institutions in British Columbia.

We recommend that you make a list of all the Douglas College course numbers you wish to check before you go to this site.

Associate Degrees

Getting an Associate Degree from Douglas College may increase your chances of getting priority admission to universities in BC. Some institutions accept Associate Degree graduates with lower GPAs than other applicants, helping you meet rising university-entrance requirements. In addition, all major BC universities (including SFU and UBC) guarantee a full transfer of all 60 credits for work in your Associate Degree.

Physics at BC Universities

Most physics students at Douglas College go on to attend the University of British Columbia or Simon Fraser University. To see what these institutions offer in physics, go to the UBC Department of Physics & Astronomy at http://www.physics.ubc.ca/ or the SFU Department of Physics at www.sfu.ca/physics.

The University of Victoria at http://www.phys.uvic.ca/ and the University of Northern British Columbia at http://www.unbc.ca/ also offer programs in physics.

Some courses at Douglas College also transfer to the British Columbia Institute of Technology at wwww.scas.bcit.bc.ca/scac/physics.

Engineering at BC Universities

If you're planning to pursue an engineering program at a BC university you can take a selection of first-year level courses at Douglas College that will usually allow you to enter the second year of study at university.

The best way to find out what courses you should take and what will transfer to an engineering program is to check the calendar of the university you want to attend and the BC transfer guide at http://www.bccat.bc.ca/.

Generally, the most common Douglas College courses for transfer to an engineering program are:
APSC 1110, CHEM 1110, CHEM 1210; ENGL 1130; MATH 1220, MATH 1130, MATH 1220, MATH 2232; PHYS 1110, PHYS 1170, PHYS 1210

The mathematics courses MATH 2321 and MATH 2421 also have transfer credit to some programs but at the second-year level.

Please see the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC) at http://www.apeg.bc.ca/ for more information about Engineering in British Columbia.
