Every student who enters Print Futures: Professional Writing wants to become a better writer. In April at our Portfolio Show, you met 14 students who had done exactly that.Next year's show, featuring the Class of 2010, will be in April. Don't miss it.
Aimee Ouellette
AIMEE OUELLETTE REVIEWED books for literary magazine subTerrain , edited poetry and non-fiction for local publishing house Anvil Press, wrote creative non-fiction for the Douglas College student anthology Pearls , and received both hate mail and fawning praise for her work as opinions editor at The Other Press .
Before enrolling in Print Futures, Aimee graduated from UBC with a BA (hons) in English literature.
Aimee is perceptive, creative, informed, and hard-working.
Amanda Lee
There are few people who pay really good attention to detail, and fewer still who have the ability to juggle and prioritize shifting deadlines. Amanda is one of those people. Cailey Bennett

While working as an intern at Bongarde Media in Penticton, Cailey enjoyed writing for magazine, newsletter, and online publications and editing over 150 articles. She currently works as a freelance editor and volunteers as a mentor for youth in Burnaby.
Cailey loves language. Through the real-world practice and training provided in Print Futures, she knows what reader-friendly, effective communication looks like and is thrilled to unleash these skills in the world.

Crystal Auffray
From the moment Crystal walked into our office, I knew she would be a great fit. She has the personality to lift even the lowest spirit. In addition to her positive nature, Crystal also possesses amazing abilities.
Crystal has shown herself to be a dedicated writer, researcher, editor, and proofreader. Jennifer Chan
Jennifer offered Event magazine valuable assistance on our Creative Non-Fiction Contest. She was respectful, polite, and responsible, and carried out her tasks on time. Her written feedback as a first reader for our content was very good, probably her strongest and most important work during her editorial internship with Event.
Jennifer expresses herself best through her writing. She offered articulate and detailed responses to the many entries we received. In addition, Jen did a very good job copyediting most of our fall issue, and her help in that area was much appreciated. Jen also logged and routed contest entries and performed other admin tasks, without complaint! She worked on an important Event readership survey with fellow intern Vicki Stratton, putting together a well-targeted collection of questions. This survey was an unsupervised special project that we are now putting to good use in our mailouts. - Rick Maddocks, Editor, EventTraining in Print Futures has developed Jennifer's ability for editing and writing documents with a finely tuned attention to detail and a clear and concise style. Recently, Jennifer interned at Event magazine, where she edited and proofread fiction, poetry, and reviews.

Katie Edmunds
KATIE EDMUNDS applied to Print Futures to learn to be a better writer. Specifically, she wanted to learn how to write for magazines.
At Joeys Restaurants Head Office, Katie worked as a writer and editor alongside a graphic designer. As a result, she developed interests other than simply magazine writing.From Print Futures and her work term, Katie learned that she has strong aspirations to incorporate design, layout, and editing into her writing career.
Leah Giesbrecht
Leah is a prolific and creative journalist. She showed initiative, was organized, and conducted methodical research. Leah demonstrated excellent time-management skills and often submitted writing assignments well before deadline. Liam Britten
A LOT GOES INTO CRAFTING a good news story. You need background research, original interviews, photography, and a writing style that informs readers about all the facts while still keeping them engaged.
Liam Britten has done all these things and more in his journalistic career, and has picked up many transferable skills that are assets in any writing job.
Whether as junior reporter for the Maple Ridge - Pitt Meadows Times or editor-in-chief of The Other Press , Liam has proven in each capacity that he has the skills, knowledge, and talent to be a real asset to a writing team.
Lindsay Olsen
Lindsay is a very intelligent and self-motivated individual whose energy, enthusiasm, attention to detail, and positive attitude make her a standout and very much appreciated by everyone who works with her. In my observations and interactions with Lindsay, I have found her to be highly effective in high-stress, fast-paced environments. She consistently displays the ability to handle a wide range of responsibilities with ease. Madeline Sept
Madeline's role at The Board required the use of a great variety of different skills, along with rapid multi-tasking. She handled everything from writing news stories for the 5,800 members' monthly newspaper and content for our seven websites, to writing press releases and handling the media for speakers such as Premier Gordon Campbell.

Seymour Berg
Seymour was an extremely positive addition to our internal communications unit. During his time with us, Seymour researched and wrote a series of perceptive articles for our employee newsletter and was responsible for producing our employee profile feature on the intranet. Not afraid to leap in, he approached his various writing assignments with enthusiasm and diligence, completing them on time and with the target audience clearly in mind. Our communication materials and publications benefited from his meticulous copyediting and proofreading skills.

Shanley Barbour
