Admission requirements

The only admission requirements for this program are the Douglas College General Admission Requirements. There are no additional requirements for TRU-OL.

If you are not sure whether you meet these General Admission Requirements you should contact Academic Advising at Douglas College.

If you are an International Student who is applying to Douglas College for the first time, contact Douglas College International for advice.

Applying to the Program

Apply to this program through Douglas College. If you’re not already a Douglas College student, you will need to be admitted as a program student, given a student number and sent a registration date before you can register in any courses.  Program applications are accepted online up to six weeks before the start of each semester, or in person right up to the start of courses. If you were a BC high school student, don’t forget to include your PEN number. For more information on the application process at Douglas, see the Application Guide.

If you apply online, make sure that select the Psychology – Douglas and TRU-OL – BA Degree. If your application does not involve any complications, you will usually receive an acceptance letter in two weeks or less.

If you are already a Douglas College student in another program, and have already met the General Admission Requirements, then you will need to change your program to: B.A. Douglas/TRU-OL. This can be done online or in person through Application and Registration Services at either campus. There are no additional charges.

It is very important to make sure you are in the correct program. We will provide advice to all program students and ensure that they are able to enroll in the courses that they need. If you change your mind later, you will still be able to apply to another program or transfer to another university.

Registering for Courses

By now you probably understand that after you have been accepted in to a program you still have to choose your courses and register in them.  For general advice about course registration, see the Application Guide. Your course registration date will be available online.

It can sometimes be a little tricky planning your course selection. You will need to follow the program requirements and build a schedule that fits with your availability and your interests. The program coordinator will be available to advise you on courses and options. Suggestions will be sent out to all students.

Applying for Transfer Credit at Douglas

You do not have to apply for transfer credit at Douglas in order to gain admission into the program, but some courses have required prerequisites. For example, you need to have at least a C- in Introduction to Psychology II in order to register in Social Psychology at Douglas. If you have taken first- and second-year courses at other colleges and universities, you should submit your transcripts to Douglas soon after entering the program. You can find information about transferring credits in the Registration Guide. If you are still waiting for your credits to be assessed and need to register in a course that has prerequisites, then talk to the program coordinator about a temporary prerequisite waiver.

Applying to TRU-OL

Sometime after you have been accepted into the program at Douglas, you will also need to apply to be a program student at TRU-OL. We will advise you on the best time for this application and help you with the process. Do not apply online at TRU-OL as there is a special application form for this program which is available from the program coordinator at Douglas. There are no additional admission requirements and your acceptance is guaranteed.

The advantage to becoming a TRU-OL student is that your transfer credits will be fully evaluated and a program plan will be created for you. You will need to arrange for your transcripts to be sent to TRU-OL. The TRU-OL advisers will be available to help with your planning and to ensure that you have met the requirements for graduation.
