Courses
As a Psychiatric Nursing student at Douglas College, you'll learn in courses and practice settings that focus on clinical and interpersonal skills needed in today's mental health care workplace. You'll study topics ranging from health assessment practices and psychiatric gerontology (working with the elderly) to addiction issues and how to work with individuals, families and groups.
Learning will take place in classroom, laboratory and practicum settings. Schedule class and clinical time is approximately 29-34 hours per week. Most courses in the program are designated for psychiatric nursing students only. There is an emphasis on hands-on learning; nursing skills are demonstrated and practiced whenever possible in well-equipped College laboratories.
