Meet The Instructors
Cheryl Palmer, Coordinator

"My main objective for students during their two years at Douglas College is for them to attain the skills required to be successful sign language interpreters, learn how to continue their development after graduation and have fun in the process."
Boyd McWilliam, Program Technician
Adult Education Diploma (Vancouver Community College)
In progress -- ASLIC - American Sign Language Instructor Certificate (Douglas College)
"I enjoy working with students in the program, assisting in their ASL classes and supporting students' learning in weekly labs. I also work individually with students to develop their language skills in one-to-one tutoring sessions. My ultimate goal is for students to develop the skills required to provide good interpreting service to the Deaf community."
Karen Malcolm , Instructor
BGS (Simon Fraser), MS (Western Maryland College), Certificate of Interpretation (AVLIC)
"Even after 15 years of teaching interpreting and a total of 23 years involvement in the profession, I never fail to be energized and excited by my interactions with students in the program here at Douglas. Guiding new interpreters in their development and entry into the field is the best job in the world!"
Nigel Howard , Instructor
BA (British Columbia); Supervision Certificate (BCIT) Management Level VII (Justice Institute)

"Teaching is always an inspiration for me. Every student who comes into our program is a special individual with potential to become a professional interpreter. To achieve that, I am sharing my world with you so that you will become a valued member in the Deaf community."
