Worksite Learning
Practicums allow you to gain hands-on experience by using the skills you learn in the classroom in real-world workplace situations. As a student in the Program of Sign Language Interpretation you will complete three practicums - one in the first year and then throughout your final semester.
The first practicum course is held at a retreat setting in the Lower Mainland attended by students, faculty and staff. Members of the Deaf community and people who are unfamiliar with sign language are invited to attend, affording students their first opportunity to put theory into practice and interpret for real people.
During your final semester in the program, you will be teamed with professional interpreters in their work setting. Practicum placements include sites across Canada and in the US. You will experience three different practicum sites. Faculty members provide guidance and support while you are in the field. Between practicums, you will return to the college for classroom study.
