Sport Science
Wherever you're going in sport sciences - from teaching students about the importance of health and fitness to coaching athletes and helping them reach their performance goals - the Sport Science program offers you flexible learning choices to advance your knowledge and help you reach your goals.
As a Sport Science student, you'll learn with award-winning faculty who are experienced as coaches and as teachers. You'll study and train in Douglas College's athletic facilities, using modern gymnasiums, fitness-testing areas, exercise and weight rooms.You'll learn sport science practices that are up-to-date and in-demand, in courses that are delivered in an interactive and hands-on environment.
Once you graduate from the Sport Science program, you'll be ready for a new career or to transfer into a related university degree program.
Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching
The ideal program if you're planning a career as a Physical Education teacher or in community coaching. Develop the cutting-edge skills needed in modern PE instruction, selecting from majors in Elementary and Secondary education. As a graduate, you can transfer directly into fifth year at SFU, UBC or other universities to complete your teaching credential. Find out more.
Post-Degree Diploma in Physical Education Instruction
The renewed emphasis on physical education is creating rewarding, new instructional opportunities for teachers. Sport Science Diploma
In the Sport Science Diploma program, you'll develop a sound theoretical knowledge of sports administration, physical growth and development, bio-mechanics, exercise physiology, sport history and sport psychology.
The Sport Science Diploma allows you to complete up to two years of university-transfer study, with courses transferring to related Human Kinetics degrees at Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, the University of Victoria, University of the Fraser Valley and other institutions.
Choosing the Sport Science Closed Enrolment Option
If you're planning to enter a Sport Science program, entering the Closed Enrolment option offers the important benefit of granting you early registration for courses. Many classes fill quickly, so early registration helps ensure you get the courses needed to complete your diploma. You must meet specific prerequisites for this program, and spaces are limited - so apply early.(If you do not qualify as a Closed Enrolment student, you may still register in any Sport Science course as a General Studies student.)
