Professional Experience: Set and Lighting Designer with almost 200 credits from coast to coast. Has worked in theatre, film, television and in the event industry.

In his career as a set and lighting designer, Ross has almost 200 design credits from coast to coast and to the Yukon working in professional theatres and at post-secondary institutions. After being a part-time instructor in SET for 14 years Ross is now the Coordinator of the program. He has also taught for three departments at Langara College including Studio 58, as well as at the University College of the Fraser Valley Theatre Dept. For Stagecraft Ross teaches scenic painting, properties, drafting and computer assisted drafting. He has also designed sets or lights 16 departmental productions.

Ross is a member of the Associated Designers of Canada and the Canadian Institute for Theatre Technology.

Christine Dewar completed both her BA and MA Degrees at the University of British Columbia. Her passion for Theatre History was ignited while studying with historian Peter Loeffler. Christine performed in plays and films at UBC and wrote arts reviews for The Ubyssey. She directed Here We Are by Dorothy Parker, and Cubistique by Tom Cone.

Christine has had a long association with the award-winning Douglas College literary journal, Event , where she currently works as Fiction Editor and writes fiction reviews. She has also been active with the Amelia Douglas Gallery, curating a range of art exhibits in including: Valerie Romain, Deep Water ; Michael Downs, Mythologies ; Sharalee Regehr, Women of Substance and, most recently, Joe Rosenblatt, Magic Gardens . Her recent public lectures include "Sarah Siddons and Edmund Kean: Two Actors in the Age of Jane Austen." Christine has been teaching at Douglas College since 1987. She believes her mission is to encourage all students to see live theatre, dance, music and art, and to explore history as a rich resource for their own creative work. All of her courses are open to University Transfer students seeking imaginative arts electives.

  • David Dewar¿s adventures in entertainment span more than 30 years in film, television and the professional theatre. He has produced, directed and written for television at the CBC and has produced drama for The Disney Channel, Showtime, Nickelodeon, Lifetime and Space.

     

    His theatre career includes work both on and off the stage including Directing: Godspell, Sweet Charity and After Magritte. Acting credits include: Brigadoon, Grease, Anything Goes, West Side Story, The Threepenny Opera, Bye, Bye Birdie, Twelfth Night, All¿s Well That Ends Well, The Wild Duck, The Duchess of Malfi and many others. He has also designed sets for both television and the stage.

     

    Feature film credits as Post Production Supervisor include: Ansiedad(Lionsgate) Freestyle(Waterfront), Far From Home(20thCentury Fox), Bordello of Blood(Universal) Intern Academy(Maple & Palm) and Arctic Blue(Columbia/Tristar). As Coordinating Producer his television credits include the series¿ First Wave(Space/Sci Fi), So Weird(Disney) and Dead Man¿s Gun(Showtime). TV Post Production credits include the mini-series¿ Seven Deadly Sins(Lifetime) and Impact(ABC) and other series projects such as, Shattered(Global), Jpod(CBC) and The Collector(CHUM) along with numerous television movies.

     

    Mr. Dewar is a Director member of the Director¿s Guild of Canada and past Chairman of the BC Motion Picture Association. He has also served on the Board of the Centre For Image and Sound Research and the Royal city Musical Theatre Society. His book, ¿PostAge, A Handbook of Film and Television Post Production¿ was used as a text by the Vancouver Film School and he has lectured in film and television production and post production at the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, the National Screen Institute and the Vancouver International Film Festival.

Bill Williams Lighting Design for Architecture and the Arts: Professional Lighting Resources

Robert Hamilton has worked with Douglas Welch Design as a theatre consultant and lighting designer since 1988. Previous experience includes positions as an assistant lighting designer for the Stratford Festival in Canada and the New York City Opera. Since 1989, he has been teaching classes in the areas of lighting and design as part of the SET Program at Douglas College. As an active member of the CITT, Mr. Hamilton held a position on the CITT National Board and recently stepped down as the Section Chair for the British Columbia Section. He is also an avid participant of the CITT's sister organization the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT). Since joining Douglas Welch Design, Mr. Hamilton has served as a theatre consultant and theatrical equipment systems designer on over forty facilities.

Scott has worked in the SET program since September 1992. Scott is a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada, Technical Production Program. He has worked as Resident Sound/Lighting Technician for Theatre New Brunswick, Sunshine Theatre Company in Kelowna and Banff Arts Centre. As a Stagehand/Technician Scott has worked extensively with The Arts Club Theatre, White Rock Summer Theatre and Axis Mime Theatre Company. In the film industry Scott works as a Sound Recordist/Boom Operator on a variety of Commercials, Television Series and Feature Films.

Most recently Allison has stage managed at Centaur Theatre (Montreal), The Arts Club (Vancouver), Western Canada Theatre (Kamloops), and Gateway Theatre (Richmond). She has toured productions extensively (Japan, Singapore, Britain, USA) including the Eastern waterways on board the Caravan Stage Barge. After graduation, Allison completed a full apprenticeship at Neptune Theatre and went on to work across Canada, including The Stratford Festival, and Atlantic Canada House for the Vancouver Olympics.

Danica is a member of the technical staff of the Douglas College SET Department. Danica was Resident Costume Designer at the University of Windsor School of Dramatic Art for over nine years, and spent four seasons working in costumes and scenic painting at the Stratford Shakespearean Festival in Ontario. She currently designs costumes for many of the Douglas College productions. Danica also specializes in teaching make-up artistry for film and stage at the College and University level

Greg is the chief designer and project manager for his company Theme It! Design Ltd. His work on themed attractions and exhibits has included Science World, Surrey Museum, Vancouver Museum, and the Discovery Centre at the BC Wildlife Park in Kamloops. Greg has designed and installed rigging and life safety systems at the new MTS Centre in Winnipeg, and was responsible for the fabrication and touring of two exhibits for resort properties in Mexico and The Turks and Cayucos. These exhibits toured to the UK, the US and Canada. When not working or teaching, he may be found downhill skiing, wilderness camping, motorcycling, woodworking or designing and building scenery for various small production companies.

1983, House Technician at the newly established Firehall Arts Centre.
1983-1985, Technical Director for Touchstone Theatre Co. and resident TD for Douglas College's new performing arts theatre.
1984, Assistant Stage Manager for the opening of BC Place and the Queen's Royal Visit.
1985-1986, Technical Supervisor for Street Entertainment at Expo '86.
1987- 2006, SET Program Coordinator, Douglas College.

Drew graduated from the UBC Theatre Dept in 1982. After graduation he joined Touchstone Theatre as Technical Director and concurrently became the first House Technician for the soon to be renovated #1 Firehall, Vancouver, now know as the Firehall Arts Centre. In subsequent years Drew was a Stage Manager for Vancouver Children's Festival, Stage Manager for the opening of BC Place Stadium and the Queen's Visit in 1985, Technical Director for Bard on the Beach, and Technical Supervisor in Entertainment Services for EXPO '86. From its inception in 1987 to 2006 Drew was the Coordinator for the SET Program.  In that time Drew has overseen about 80 productions as Production Manager and also found time to design 15 of those.
