Safety Orientation
All new employees must receive safety orientation prior to commencing work.
New employee safety orientation occurs in two parts:
Introductory Safety Orientation is provided by Human Resources during the New Employee Welcome and sign-up. At this meeting the Employee Health & Safety Orientation Handbook is reviewed with the new employee and he/she receives a copy of the handbook. Also the Introductory Safety Orientation Checklist Introductory Safety Orientation Checklist is completed and placed in the employee's file.
Job Specific Safety Orientation is provided by the Supervisor or Manager as part of the New Employee Team Orientation with the Department. The new employee receives a copy of the Job Specific Safety Orientation Checklist from Human Resources and is instructed to meet with his/her Supervisor/Manager to receive this job specific safety orientation prior to commencing work. To help you provide this important training a PowerPoint presentation has been developed and is suitable for office and classroom based employees. If you are training an employee in a more safety sensitive job i.e. an employee who works with chemicals, biological agents or hazardous substances or who operates machinery or equipment, works in the field, or lifts heavy items you must ensure to provide specific training appropriate to that work.
Safety on the job is everyone's business! Review WorkSafe BC's responsibilities for Employers, Supervisors and Workers.
