I have been a champion of Co-op since 1971 when I hired Co-op students at Sears Canada as the Superintendent of Computer Development. The major benefit to Sears, as to many employers was getting excellent trainees with enthusiasm, good skills, and fresh new ideas. This infused excellent energy into the organization.

When I joined Douglas College, I constantly pushed for a Co-op Program to be incorporated into the curriculum. As a result, I helped start up a new Co-op Program for Douglas College in 1985 and the first placement was a Computer Information Systems student in 1986.

The benefits of Co-op are endless: for students in skill development, for the College in raising its profile and reputation with employers, and for faculty advisors in getting out and keeping current with the industry practices.

Co-op is a win-win situation for students, faculty, employers, and the College.  It is one of the best programs Douglas College offers.
