Darren Devine

Darren Devine
UT Commerce student
June 2003

Team Co-op is proud to introduce a University Transfer Commerce student, Darren Devine.  Darren is enthusiastic, humorous, outgoing, and a great team player, who can create an enjoyable atmosphere in any setting.  Last summer, he succeeded in obtaining a placement at Creation Technologies as an Accounts Payable Assistant.  Recognizing his outstanding performance, Creation Technologies offered Darren a part-time position immediately following his Co-op work term.

"I learned that what we learn in the classroom does not necessarily work in the real world.  Successful individuals are ones who are able to adapt to changing environments and current trends.  Hence, this is what business is all about in the modern world from technological growth to exchange rate volatility," said Darren.

When asked what he learned about himself during the Co-op experience, Darren replied, "I learned that the business world is very competitive.  To excel, you need to re-engineer yourself and have the ability to implement new initiatives."

Darren recommends the Co-op Program to all students, "Without work experience, students are not learning to their full capability.  Classroom knowledge is one thing but real world experience is an asset that can never be taken away.  I believe my Co-op experience has not only improved my resume for future employers but altered my thoughts to strive in all endeavours."

His superior performance is not limited to work.  Having completed 60 transfer credits from Douglas College with an honour roll on two occasions, Darren is completing a Bachelor degree at Simon Fraser University, majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and International Business. With his recent high GPA of 3.77, Darren is considering the honours program and planning to work in the financial industry after graduation.
