"My passion for computers began when I immigrated to Canada ten years ago," recalled JoJo Ho, a second year Computer Information Systems student. "Upon arriving in Canada, I took a serious look at my career. I was an Administrative Officer in Hong Kong and had many years of experience in administration. However, I wanted to try something new in Canada and work in the IT field which interested me."
"I applied for Co-op because I wanted to work in the field before making a decision about my career. In addition, I would like to develop a network of contacts for future jobs. To my joy, I have received tremendous support from the Co-op Office. Not only did I receive one-on-one coaching in writing a resume and cover letter, I also received valuable interview feedback from employers, which greatly sharpened my interview skills."
"My first Co-op work term at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada was truly enjoyable. I was very fortunate to work with a group of well-experienced friendly people who welcomed me with open arms. As a Computer Assistant, I was responsible for providing technical support for users and setting up video conferences."
"My current work term at Microserve is fantastic. Again, I am very lucky to be placed in a very supportive environment where everyone is kind and friendly. My major duties as a Software Developer is to design and to write email applications with specific functions for the Customer Service Department."
"The Co-op experience has illuminated my career path. It has cemented my desire as a Software Developer. As a Co-op student, I have the opportunity to try my hand at two distinctive IT positions in two outstanding organizations. I found out my true love is in programming. Through Co-op, I have also learned new software programs and programming skills that are not taught in classrooms."
JoJo is a hard worker who has an excellent track record. In Hong Kong, she was promoted from an "Office Clerk" to a "Customer Coordinator" and finally to an "Administrative Officer". At Douglas College, she has been on the Honour Roll for four semesters. She was also a recipient for the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) scholarship in 2004. She is pursuing an Associate Certificate in Web Programming at BCIT.
