Karen Wang
Computer Information Systems
June 2006 Graduate

Computer Information Systems grad, Karen Wang was a shy, quiet, student when she first secured a Co-op position in 2004. She worked as an Office Assistant at Alda Pharmaceuticals and was able to use her web design interests to add value to the employer. After gaining some confidence, she succeeded in obtaining a Software Tester position at CGA Canada.

She says, "I was drawn to CGA Canada's diverse work environment with professionals always thriving for excellence. I was working within a software development team in the quality assurance/software testing position. I was fortunate to be mentored by many senior professionals to strengthen my directions in my career path."

When asked if she would have the confidence to apply for jobs that she is applying for now, she replied "No, definitely not." Karen re-iterated that, "the encouragement and support from the staff and coaches was tremendous in my preparation of applying for positions related to my studies. I learned how to be patient and persevere in searching for career placements and was willing to step out of my comfort zone in communication."

Karen would like to send a million thanks to Michelle Leong, Ron de Villa, Dana Wakabayashi, and Raymond Yu for the help and advice she received when she was in Co-op Education. She is currently studying full-time in the Bachelor of Technology program (Human Computer Interface) at BCIT.
