Phoenix Zhang
Accounting student
August 2003

Team Co-op is proud to introduce a second year Accounting Management student, Phoenix Zhang.  Phoenix is intelligent, pleasant, enthusiastic, and a quick learner.  This summer, she succeeded in obtaining a four-month placement at the Prostate Centre at Vancouver General Hospital as a Financial Assistant.  With her outstanding performance, Phoenix was extended for an additional work term.

"Co-op provides me with the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge and skills in practical situations.  The experience effectively complements my academic studies and assists me in understanding business concepts.  I have become completely immersed in the field of accounting," said Phoenix.

Phoenix believes that the Co-op Program helps potential employers to meet their short-term needs, such as year-end processing.  Co-op students can work on special projects, which may relieve permanent staff to undertake other tasks.  By hiring Co-op students, employers participate in the educational process, which facilitates in the shaping of business professionals.  As well, employers can reduce recruitment and hiring costs.

When asked how the Co-op experience helped her to decide where she would like to work after graduation, Phoenix replied, "I'm enjoying my job very much, and I would like to continue pursuing my CGA designation after graduating from Douglas College.  The Co-op experience has made me more competitive in finding a lucrative accounting position in the future."

Her superior performance is not limited to work.  Phoenix has been on the Dean's list three times and was awarded four scholarships at Douglas College during the past two years.  With the Co-op experience under her belt, her self-confidence continues to soar.  She feels that her excellent detail-oriented, organizational and time-management skills can help her to excel in the accounting field.
