"I went into the Co-op Program with high expectations. I looked upon it as an opportunity to learn as much as possible outside the classroom, but also as a chance to gain valuable experience that would help my career choice in the marketing field. I wanted to ensure that the jobs I applied for would fit me perfectly like a new pair of pants. Not only did the potential jobs have to fit my personality and skills, but also I wanted something that would challenge me," recalled Trevor Dueck, a second year Marketing student.
After spending many hours on sending out resumes and preparing for interviews, Trevor found his dream job at Mosaic Sales Solutions in January. As a Labatt Field Representative, Trevor is responsible for setting up displays, merchandising products, promoting beer, adding value to the Company's products, and building professional relationships with clients.
"I love my job. This is a dream Co-op position, which I don't want to end. It has been the best marketing education I have ever had. I am getting first-hand experience at how a large company operates, and I am seeing what I read in my textbooks up close. I have always known that marketing is really about building trust and relationships with people. Experiencing it at first-hand and recognizing that Labatt truly believes in the concept of building trust and relationships with its clientele has really opened my eyes. The Co-op experience has taught me more than any textbook could ever teach me. It is such a rewarding experience that made my time at the College worthwhile in a huge way."
"The Co-op Program at Douglas College is one of the best programs in Canada. Not only did the Co-op staff prepare me for resumes, interviews, and overall skills that are vital for job hunting, they were very good at boosting my confidence level. In addition, they are proficient in magnifying students' strengths to make those strengths work well on the job for students. The Co-op Team has totally been supportive in every step of my placement."
"If you are a student and have an idea of what you want to do or what field you want to explore, why waste your time and not take Co-op? Why pass up the opportunity to get your foot in the door? Why not learn some valuable skills that a textbook can never teach you? It is a pretty simple concept - experience will open doors. Few employers will hire somebody without experience or necessary skills. Co-op can be the key that unlocks the door to your dream job."
