Yuko Yoshino

Yuko Yoshino
Science student
December 2003

Team Co-op is proud to introduce a second year Science student, Yuko Yoshino.  Yuko, an international student from Japan, is accountable, conscientious, courteous, and hardworking.  Last summer, she succeeded in obtaining a placement at PSC Analytical Services as a Lab Assistant.

"The Co-op program has definitely broadened my education experience at Douglas College.  It is a great advantage because I can focus on the learning aspects of work, not just manage day-to-day activities," said Yuko.

At the outset, Yuko worked in the Sample Reception and Shipping Department, acquiring knowledge of environmental samples, regulations, and how to handle dangerous goods.  As her knowledge expanded, Yuko moved to the Lab Department, preparing soil samples for instrumental analyses.

"I feel so lucky to work with many respectful people at PSC.  I am always impressed by the staff, who are not only enthusiastic about their work, but also handle their tasks very promptly and professionally.  Meeting a good role model encourages me in my career and life," reflected Yuko.

When asked why she was interested in the Co-op program, Yuko replied, "I thought the Co-op program would be a great experience and a good challenge as it would be the first step of my career.  In fact, it turned out to be an invaluable experience, giving me lots of insights into life, work, people, and myself.  It was a big challenge to face my unrealized weaknesses and to find ways of improving myself."

The placement is a good match for Yuko.  Her chemistry background and eagerness to learn thrive at PSC.  After graduation, Yuko would like to work in a field where she can help people to maintain good mental and physical health.
