Raymond Yu

Raymond Yu -Faculty Advisor
I have been working as a Co-op advisor since 1990, the year when I joined Douglas College. One day, my colleague, John Blackwell, introduced me to the Co-op Education Coordinator, Marion Rossell. That was how I got involved with the Co-operative Education Program.
I am a strong believer in the Co-op Education Program. The program is extremely important to students, especially for those who have no working experience at all. It allows students to pick up valuable working experience in the workplace. Such working experience will prepare the students to gain good employment upon graduation. Besides, if students manage to get any Co-op placements, they will be able to earn money to help pay for some of the tuition fees while Co-op employers will receive good help from our students. This is a "win-win" situation. For some cases, the Co-op employers and the Co-op students work out on a long-term basis. These cases alleviate our Co-op Education Program to its greatest success - the Co-op employers find good employees and our Co-op students get themselves permanent jobs.
Over the years, I encourage all of my students to join the Co-op Education Program regardless of their area of interest. At the beginning of every semester, I always give out information on the program and invite them to attend the orientation session. By telling my students all the successful stories of our Co-op students in the past, I wish my students would realize that the Co-op experience is a vital part to their success in the future. I highly recommend not only my students, but also all of the Douglas College students to consider joining Co-op as this program will benefit them tremendously.
I enjoy helping students to become successful while they study at Douglas College. I am very proud to be part of the "Team Co-Op".
