Admission Requirements for Academic (University Transfer) and Career programs

Open Enrolment - General Admission Requirements:
- Completed BC secondary school graduation or equivalent in another school system or 19 years of age or older.
Grade Point Average:
- Open Admission (some restrictions may apply)
English Proficiency:
One of the following;
- TOEFL - Minimum score 83 IBT
- IELTS - Minimum overall band test score 6.5
- International Baccalaureate (IB) English Language A (Higher level) - Minimum grade of 6 or C
- BC High School Communications 12 - Minimum B
- BC High School English 12 - Minimum C
- LPI - Minimum score 4
- Successful completion of EASL 0360 or 0460 course at Douglas College
Proof of undergraduate (Bachelor) degree from a post-secondary institution where English is the language of instruction.
Some programs may require additional prerequisites, please check the online course calendar.
Academic ESL Program
High School
- Same as admissions to Academic programs
English Proficiency
One of the following:
External tests
- A minimum TOEFL score of 45 IBT
- A minimum IELTS score of 3.0 in Speaking and Listening, and 3.0 in Reading and Writing.
Douglas College English as a Second Language Assessment
External Substitution
An official post-secondary transcript showing successful completion of English for Academic Purposes courses as outlined in the Articulation Handbook for ESL Programs in the British Columbia College and Institute System (Transcript must show four skill areas: Reading, Writing, Listening and Conversation).
Important Notes
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Douglas College only accepts an official TOEFL score. Douglas College's institutional code is 9568.

The Douglas College ESL Assessment is offered to students living in the Vancouver area. For details, please contact the Centre for International Education.

- Complete Douglas College application form (pdf)
- Original high school transcript (equivalent to the Province of British Columbia Grades 11 - 12)* and a proof of graduation if under 19 years old
- Original college or university transcripts (if applicable)
- Proof of English proficiency
- CAN$100 non-refundable application fee
