Scotland Field School

Study in Scotland in Summer 2012 with the Scotland Field School Program!

Earn 10 university-transferable Douglas College credits in just 7 weeks with courses taught by Douglas College instructors:

  • Personal Narrative (CRWR 1202) - 3 credits - Calvin Wharton
  • Introduction to Earth Sciences (GEOG 1120) - 4 credits - Susan Smythe
  • Arts of the Modern World (PEFA 1102) - 3 credits - Christine Dewar

Program Dates: May 7 - June 27, 2012
Weeks 1-4 - Classes at New Westminster Campus
Weeks 5-7 - Classes and residence at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland
Return home at the end of the program or choose to extend yur travels in Britain or Europe!

Visit world-class art galleries, theatres, museums. Walk up glacial hills and extinct volcanoes. Visit writing and poetry museums and listen to Scottish authors talk about their work. Edinburgh is a UNESCO City of Literature! Excursions include trips to Stirling, Glasgow, Scone, Culross and Loch Tay.

Crannog CentreProgram Fee: $2800 ($2700 if application and $500 deposit received by Friday, November 18, 2011)

  • includes all ground transportation in Scotland, all accommodations, all breakfasts and lunches, entrance to all program events, travel medical insurance, internet access in rooms and cellphones
  • does not include passport application, Douglas College tuition and student fees, textbooks, airfare, airport transfers in Vancouver, dinners in Scotland, and personal expenses

  • A $500 deposit is due at the time of application (cash, cheque made out to "Douglas College," VISA, MasterCard accepted).
  • Early-Bird application deadline (get $100 off Program Fee): Friday, November 18, 2011
  • Final application deadline: Friday, January 6, 2012
  • Program Fee payment deadline: To be confirmed
  • Please note that Program Fee, airfare and Tuition & Other Student Fees will be due on different dates.

Students who are on a Student Loan for the Winter 2012 semester can apply to extend their loan for the purposes of attending this field school. Please visit the Financial Aid Office or http://www.douglas.bc.ca/services/financial-aid.html for more information.

Students registered at other Canadian post-secondary institutions are welcome to apply for this trip!

Make your application for Admission to Douglas College before February 2012. For information, please go to How to apply.

Official transcript from current institution is required as part of Admission application.

Admission application fee: $30.00 (domestic students) / $100.00 (international students).

After admission, you can register in late March/early April 2012 for our program by going to http://www.douglas.bc.ca/application-services.html.
