Wales Field School
Study in Wales in Summer 2012!
Earn 9 Douglas College credits in just 7 weeks with courses taught by Douglas College instructors:
- Studies in Drama (ENGL 1115) - 3 credits - Brenna Gray
- Understanding History through Film (HIST 1180) - 3 credits - Jeff Schutts
- Society and the Individual (PHIL 1151)* - 3 credits - Doug Simak
*transfers to SFU as a 2nd-year Philosophy course
Option to earn an additional 3 credits for the History & Culture of Wales course taught at the University of Wales Trinity St. David. This course transfers to Douglas College as a 3rd-year Humanities course.
Guided studies option available to students who have already taken any of the above courses.
Program Dates: May 7 - June 26, 2012
Weeks 1-3 - Classes at New Westminster Campus begin on Monday, May 7
Weeks 4-7 - Classes and residence at the University of Wales Trinity St. David, Camarthen, Wales
Visit Tintern Abbey, Rhondda Valley, London and more! You have the option to stay after the program ends to travel the UK and Europe.
All program participants must take the same flight from Vancouver to London on May 25. Participants can return at the scheduled time of June 26, or return at a later date from any of the following cities: London, Amsterdam, Glasgow, Manchester, Paris or Munich (depending on dates/schedules).
Program Fee: $3650
$100 off Program Fee if application received by Friday, January 27, 2012.
- includes airport transfer to University of Wales, Camarthen, on-campus accommodation, weekday meals, several guided excursions, tuition for course on Welsh culture, access to computer and sports facilities on campus, and travel medical insurance
- does not include passport application, Douglas College tuition, airfare, airport transfers in Vancouver, weekend meals, personal expenses
Program Application and Payment Information:

- A $500 deposit is due at the time of application (cash, cheque made out to "Douglas College", VISA, MasterCard accepted).
- Early-Bird application deadline (get $100 off Program Fee!): Friday, January 27, 2012
- Final application deadline: Friday, March 2, 2012
- Tuition and other student fees: late March 2012
- Program Fee payment deadline: Monday, April 2, 2012

Awards and Scholarships
Canadian and landed immigrant Douglas College students can be eligible for these two awards:
$500 International Studies Award
(A 2.75 minimum cumulative GPA is one of the eligibility requirements.)
$1000 One World International Scholarship
(A 3.00 minimum cumulative GPA is one of the eligibility requirements.)
Application deadline for award and scholarship: 4pm on Friday, March 9, 2012.
Student Loan applicable!
Students who are on a Student Loan for the Winter 2012 semester can apply to extend their loan for the purposes of attending this field school. Please visit the Financial Aid Office for more information.
Not a Douglas College student? No problem!
Students registered at other Canadian post-secondary institutions are welcome to apply for this trip!
Make your application for Admission to Douglas College before February 2012. For information, please go to How to apply.
Official transcript from current institution is required as part of Admission application.
Admission application fee: $30.00 (domestic students) / $100.00 (international students).
After admission, we will register you in your field school courses in late March/early April 2012.
