Practicum
A practicum is normally an integral part of a particular program at Douglas College and fulfills a hands-on learning requirement for completing that program of studies. Students who are required to complete a practicum usually enroll in a practicum along with their other courses.
A practicum is a supervised worksite learning placement and is supervised by a faculty member from Douglas College or their designate (practitioner or administrator) in the selected workplace.

Early Childhood Education Program
Each year the Department of Early Childhood Education organizes practicum opportunities abroad, as well as internships.

Sign Language Interpretation (SLI) Program

Therapeutic Recreation
Students enrolled in the Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation have the opportunity to travel to the United States to complete their practicum. For further information, including international opportunities with this practicum, check the Program Calendar.
Uganda Practicum
This practicum accepts students from a variety of disciplines including Co-occuring Disorders, Early Childhood Education, Community Social Service Work, and Dental Assisting. If you are interested having your practicum in Uganda, contact your department supervisor, John Fox, or Bob Shebib for further information.
If you go on an international practicum, you will be eligible to apply for an International Studies Award. You can also attend a pre-departure session offered by Douglas College International.
You must also complete a Travel Abroad Information form, an Emergency Contact form, as well as a Release of Liability form, which all must be completed and dropped off to Karen Ng at the Douglas College International office at least one month before you leave.
