Vancouver 2010 Work Term

The Organizing Committee for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) has exciting work opportunities for students and recent graduates from BC colleges, institutes and universities.

Sponsored by local organizations for paid three-month work terms, students will gain exclusive insight into the planning and production of one of the world’s most elite sporting events. Interns and co-op students who have worked with VANOC over the last four years have returned to their schools with enhanced skills and renewed self-confidence. For many, this will prove to be the experience of a lifetime.

Program details

Each student will be provided with a three-month, full time work experience from January to March, 2010

Each student will be paid $2,500 per month, for a total of $7,500 (before regular deductions) VANOC is the employer – its staff will match students with positions and handle logistical matters related to hiring and compensation. VANOC will not be able to assist with transportation, relocation or accommodation expenses Positions are available in all areas of VANOC operations. Students must:

  • have their own accommodation in the Games Corridor (Vancouver or Whistler areas)
  • be 19 years of age or older
  • have been registered in at least one course at their respective institution in 2009
  • be in good standing with their institution
  • be eligible to work in Canada
  • be able to work full time throughout the term, with flexibility regarding scheduling
  • be able to pass a security background checkStudents are also responsible for checking whether their participation in this program will affect their financial assistance / student loan or program participation status, depending on their individual situation

Program process

**Deadline extended!** All student applications and resumes are due no later than November 6, 2009 at 4:30pm.

Douglas College accepts applications only from Douglas College students. Students must be in good standing for applications to progress.

Once VANOC receives applications from your institution, students will be contacted directly and will be invited to a “job fair” in early to mid November.

Successful applicants will be matched to a position.

Hired students will complete the on-boarding process with VANOC.

How to apply - please read carefully

There are two parts to your application: (1) the VANOC application form (2) your resume.

Your application is to be submitted by email to [no longer available] with both of those documents attached. Incomplete applications may not be submitted to VANOC.

You must respond to all questions on the VANOC application form using black font. Use at least size 12 font. We do not accept hand-written pages.

On the VANOC application form there is a section titled: "Provide any other information you feel VANOC should have to help determine what role to place you in through the Sponsored Student Work Term Program." In that section, ensure that you summarize your work experience and skills.

Your resume should be in MS Word format and should include your education information.
