Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Foundation Program
The Training Group at Douglas College offers an entry level trades and vocational program - The Road Builders and Heavy Construction Foundation Program. Offered in conjunction with The Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association, the program is ideal for those seeking entry to the trades or those with industry experience looking to start an apprenticeship in BC's robust Road Building and Heavy Construction industry.
The Foundation Program is also a prerequisite to enter apprenticeship programs for:
- Asphalt Paving/Laydown Technician
- Heavy Equipment Operator Technician
- Utilities Installation Technician
Certifications earned
Participants will leave this 4-week program with:
- Level 1 Occupational First Aid Certificate
- Flagging Certificate
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate
- Working in Confined Spaces Certificate
- Fall Protection Certificate
- WHMIS Certificate
- Certificate of Completion from the Industry Training Authority
Employment opportunities
According to Statistics Canada, the average wage for a general labourer is $16 - $30 per hour, based on experience and whether you are union or non-union.
Prerequisites
Applicants must have succesful completion of Grade 10 Math.
Program cost
$575, plus purchase of personal safety gear. Personal safety gear must be purchased prior to start date of class. Students must have BC ID and valid Drivers License is recommended.
Class schedule
The program is scheduled for the following dates:
January 30 - February 24, 2012 (CRN 11001)
Classes take place Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. (Start and end times vary)
