What is English Language Services for Adults (ELSA)?
The ELSA program provides English language classes for newcomers. ELSA 4 & 5 combines language instruction with classes on how to look for a job in Canada and be a successful employee. Basic computer skills are also included.
The ELSA program is provided free of charge by the Ministry of Advanced Education & Labour Market Development.
What training do ELSA 4 / 5 students receive?
To improve their language skills and prepare for the workplace in Canada ELSA 4 / 5 students will receive instruction to:
- Read and write memos, email, reports, letters and resumes
- Use workplace vocabulary
- Practice how to speak comfortably in front of a group
- Learn computer skills: Introduction to Word, Excel, Internet and email
- Meet with employers and learn what they look for when they hire
- Practice job interview skills
- Talk with guest speakers who work in the community
- Use labour market information to find a job
ELSA 3 or 4 graduates or those who have received placement recommendation determined by ELSA Language Assessment Centre or designated ELSA school. Applicants should intend to enter the labour market.
