Marilyn G. Kidson

To Whom It May Concern:

Marilyn and sons

Thank you so much for the Elizabeth Kellie IODE, Hugh and Carrie Crawley Bursary award.  It could not have come at a better time and has helped me to make a decision I had been struggling with.

I am a graduate of New Westminster Secondary School and a now single mother with twin sons.  I had been staying at home to look after my children when my marriage ended.  Faced with a long absence from the workforce, I found that further education and training was necessary so that I could enter a career that would help provide for my children and me.

Having originally entered Douglas College in 2001 as a Business Management Diploma student, I realized that I had an aptitude in the field of accounting.  I, therefore, switched my program over to the Accounting Management Diploma program and will be graduating in June of this year.

The bursary award has provided me with the funds to join the CGA Association and continue on with my education.  Struggling financially, I had previously wondered how I was going to accomplish this.

I was reduced to tears when I opened the letter enclosing your bursary.  It is people like you who help pave the way for others.  Others, who in turn can contribute back to society.  I loved the movie Pay It Forward.  I believe life should not be all about making money and that it should be one that helps to empower people to be all they can be.  You are doing that by providing the means to people who often have no other place to turn.  When I am back on my feet, I plan to take a page from your book and pay it forward.

Once again, thank you so very much.   Although I have tried to express my deep gratitude, I don't think words can ever really be enough.
