The Institute of Urban Ecology is a big believer in getting people involved in restoring and enhancing the natural environment in their communities. Individuals can participate in community plantings, learn how to create habitat in their own backyard, or volunteer to help out with IUE projects. Schools and community groups can get involved by having our eco-education team deliver one of our educational workshops to their members, by working with the IUE to create a nature mural, or by helping the IUE with a habitat restoration project in their area. Since 1996, we have had over 5000 people volunteer their time put 40,000 plants into the ground. We have presented our eco-education workshops to more than 15,000 children and adults. By educating children about the importance of a healthy environment and by getting people involved in their own communities, we can enhance our beautiful natural surroundings and sustain the quality of life we all enjoy.
