Study Criminology in China in Spring 2011!Yuyuan Gardens (Shanghai)

What: 9 university transfer credits in just 7 weeks with courses taught by Douglas College instructors!

  • Comparative Justice (CRIM 1101) - 3 credits
  • Introduction to Corrections (CRIM 1170) - 3 credits
  • Criminal Law (CRIM 2260)* - 3 credits
    *Pre-requisite The Canadian Legal System (CRIM 1160) can be waived with permission from instructor.

See the best cultural and tourist sites, historic and modern, in Shanghai, Xian and Beijing! You have the option to stay after the program ends to travel China and beyond!

Pudong (Shanghai)In Shanghai:

  • lectures by instructors from Douglas College, the East China University of Politics & Law and the Shanghai Administration Institute
  • opportunities to meet local and international students on campus
  • see court in session and visit a police a station
  • cultural and tourist activities include the historic Yuyuan Gardens, The Bund, the French Quarter, a performance by the Shanghai Acrobats, the new architecture of Pudong, the Shanghai Museum, the China 2010 Expo Pavilion, Nanjing Road for modern shopping, an evening boat cruise along the Huangpu River, and a day trip to the water city of Zhoushuang or Suzhou.

In Xian:

  • see the famous terracotta army excavation site, the ancient Bonpo Village and more in the ancient capital city of China

In Beijing:

  • visit Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, Mao's mausoleum, the Temple of Heaven, the new Capital Museum, the 798 Art District and the site of the 2008 Summer Olympics
  • shop on Wangfujing Street and the Pearl Market
  • walk on the Great Wall

How Much?

Program Fee is $2150, $2000 if application is received by 4pm on Friday, January 21, 2011. Fee includes,

  • visa application
  • travel medical insurance
  • airport transfers abroad
  • accommodations
  • some meals
  • planned program excursions including a day trip to Zhouzhuang or Suzhou (transportation and site admission fees only)

The Program Fee excludes Douglas College tuition, airfare, airport transfers in Vancouver, passport application, appropriate medicines and/or vaccinations, and personal expenses.

International Studies Award

  • Canadian and landed immigrant Douglas College students can be eligible for an International Studies Award of $500

  • A $500 deposit is due at the time of application (cash, cheque, VISA, MasterCard accepted).
  • Get a $150 discount off the Program Fee for applications received by 4pm on Friday, January 21, 2011.
  • Program application deadline: 4pm on Friday, March 4, 2011.
  • Program Fee payment deadline: 4pm on Friday, March 11, 2011.

Students registered at other Canadian post-secondary institutions are welcome to apply for this trip!
Make your application for Admission to Douglas College before February 2011. For information, please go to How to apply.
Official transcript from current institution is required as part of Admission application.
Admission application fee: $30.00 (domestic students) / $100.00 (international students).
After admission, you can register in late March/early April 2011 for our program by going to http://www.douglas.bc.ca/application-services.html.
